Dr. A. Kidd (Waipiata), is staying at the Grosvenor. Mr L. Wallace (Hermitage), is a guest at the Empire. Mr K. McKenzie Milne (London), is visiting Timaru and is at the Grosvenor. Detective Sergeant P. Doyle, formerly of Auckland, has been transferred to the commissioner’s office in Wellington. Mr P. W. Hunt, senior telegraphist at Palmerston North Chief Post Office, has received notification of his transfer on promotion to Gore as supervisor of the telegraph branch. Messrs O. R. Fraser, B. C. Clarkson (Wellington), T. D. Tidswell, H. E. Crawshaw, C. S. Woods, A. L. Power, L. J. Coxon (Christchurch), W. B. Kincaid, K. R. Collins, E. R. Smith (Dunedin), and H. A. Holmes (Gore) are staying at the Dominion. Recent guests at the Grosvenor include: Messrs R. B. Ashe, J. L. Coote, F. W. Mahoney, S. G. Phillips, J. A. Taylor, E. J. Fuller (Wellington), F. J. Kent, W. F. Tracy, R. V. Pearce, W. B. Owen, R. King (Christchurch), A. Haig (Dunedin). Mr T. F. Fountaine. of Kumeroa, celebrated his ninety-fifth birthday on Sunday and was the recipient of numerous messages of congratulation. Although he is not in the best of health at times, he still maintains a lively interest in the welfare of the district. Tlie Public Service Commissioner has appointed Mr H. M. Hopper, Inspector of Factories at Greymouth, to a similar position at Invercargill on promotion. The Greymouth v&cancy will be filled by the appointment of Mr G. Brown, formerly Inspector of Factories at Wellington.

Mr R. A. Rodg a former president of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society, was presented with a framed photograph of last year’s Directors, at a meeting of the Society on Tuesday, in recogn '/on of bus services in the capacity of president from 1931 to 1935. In nking the presentation, t* ■ president., Mr A. M. Kilgour, paid tribute to the work of Mr Rodgers adding that the Society had indeed been fortunate in having a president such as Mr Rodgers who so closely had the interests of Poeiety at heart. Mr W. Hall endorsed the president’s remarks and moved that Mr Rodgers be made a life member, the motion being carried by acclamation. Mr Rodgers made suitable ackn vledement.
