WEST END CLUB The meeting of the committee of the West End Swimming Club was held on Wednesday. Mr Ball presided over the following attendance: Misses P. Keen and A. Keen, Messrs T. R. Elder, D. Stewart, L. Hunt, J. T. Dennison, G. Collins, J. Drummond, J. Gillon (hon. treasurer). An honorarium was passed to the joint hon. secretaries for the season 1935. and also to the custodian of the baths, the members being particularly grateful to both Mr and Mrs Hooke for their effort to promote the club’s welfare on every occasion. After a discussion on the awarding of points in aggregate races, the following proposals drawn up by Mr Dennison were unanimously agreed to,—One point to each competitor in the event, including heats, first in final three points, second in final two points, third one point. The winner of the T. R. Elder and junior champion trophy to be debarred from winning the aggregate. The same conditions as to points are to govern all grades. Mr Dennison and Mr L. Hunt were thanked for trophies for the coming season. Owing to health reasons Mr Ramsay resigned his position as hon. secretary of the club. Mr L. W. Macgregor was appointed with Mr G. Collins as assistant. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mr Ramsay for his past services to the club. The Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., a vicepresident, forwarded a letter congratulating the club on the progress made during the season 1935. The following appointments were made: Assistant handicapper, Mr E. Ramsay; starter, Mr D. Stewart; assistant starter, Mr T. R. Elder; timekeeper, Mr J. Drummond; diving judges, Messrs D. Elder, D. Stewart, E. Ramsay and J. T. Dennison; touch judges, Messrs T, R. Elder, S. Lyttle, j. T. Dennison and J. Drummond; check starters, Messrs lan Gillon and G. Collins; referee, Mr T. R. Elder; call stewards, Mrs Gillon, Miss A, A. Keen. Messrs H. Booth and J. T. Dennison; announcer, Mr J. Drummond. The official opening day was fixed for November 9. It was decided to hold a special meeting of the committee to arrange for the opening day events. * A Chinese passenger in the British steamship Ipoh ran amok off Penang and stabbed two persons before being overpowered by the chief officer, Mr. Poole.
