OBITUARY

REV. J. H. ROGERS The death occurred at his residence, 4 Nile Street, yesterday, of the Rev. John Henry Rogers, in his ninetysecond year. Mr Rogers was bom in Bristol and was educated at Harrow and Oxford, where he took his M.A. degree. He came to New Zealand in February, 1902, and was first stationed at Sheffield. Later he removed to St. Albans and then to Hinds, and he was vicar of the parish of Timaru and the parish of Otipua during the war period, 1914 to 1918. On leaving Timaru Mr Rogers went to Shirley, Christchurch, and from there to St. Martin’s, North East Valley, Dunedin, where he was vicar for a period of five years. After leaving North East Valley he went to St. Clair, and was later assistant priest at Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin. Mr Rogers came back to Timaru about seven months ago. and although then 91 years of age, he continued active work, assisting every Sunday evening at St. Peter’s Church. Mr Rogers is survived by four daughters, Mrs L. E. Williams (Geraldine) and the Misses E. C. and D. A. Rogers (Timaru), and Miss M. R. Rogers (England). Mr Rogers’ only son, Major Vic Rogers, D. 5.0., was killed in the war. He was a member of the Main Body, N.Z.E.F.
