MEETING OF HOCKEY CLUB FUTURE MATCHES The president (Mr C. C. Knight) presided over a large attendance at a general meeting of members of the Geraldine Men’s Hockey Club on Wednesday evening.

The secretary (Mr J. Webb) reported that arrangements were in train for matches after the completion of the Sub-Association’s competition. The matter was left in the secretary’s hands. The annual match between the Geraldine Sub-Association and the Mid-Canterbury Association was also left to the secretary to arrange. Mr G. S. Maloney, Milton, an honorary vice-president of the Club, wrote expressing good wishes to the club for the season. Members expressed appreciation of the letter, and the secretary was instructed to write thanking Mr Maloney.

It was decided to hold the annual ball on July 24, and the arrangements were left to the Dance Committee. An enjoyable social hour was then spent, Mr L. J. Bennington providing the supper. The euchre tournament was won by Mr C. Pierce, and the consolation prize was won by Mr S. Patrick.

LAST THURSDAY HOLIDAY Yesterday was the last occasion when Thursday afternoon was observed as the weekly half-holiday. Next week the shops will remain open on Thursday, with the late night on Friday, and half-day from noon on Saturday. PRESENTATION The staff of the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd. met on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Mr • Alan Jones, who left yesterday on transfer to Wellington. The manager (Mr J. H. Lewis) paid a warm tribute to the services of Mr Jones, who had been a member of the staff for more than seven years and wished him every success in the future. He presented Mr Jones with a solid leather wallet. Mr M. Anderson endorsed the manager’s remarks, and Mr Jones suitably responded. RIFLE SHOOTING The following were the scores at the weekly shoot of the Pleasant Valley Men’s Miniature Rifle Club: R. Neutze 80, W. Crotty 79, J. Mulvey 79, J. Crotty 78, C. Lynn 78. T. Hassall 71; average for 10 men, 78. At the sixth official shoot of the Pleasant Valley Ladies’ Club, the weekly brooch was won by Miss D. Fawdray and Mr W. Angland’s trophy by Miss E./ Hughes. Scores were: Miss D. Fawdray 75, Miss E. Fawdray 75, Miss E, Hughes 72, Mrs G. Tiplady 70, Miss J. Tiplady 68, Mrs T. Hughes 68, Mrs F. Hughes 62, Miss G. Gregan 58. At the seventh official shoot, Miss D. Fawdray won the weekly brooch and the C.F.C.A. trophy was won by Mrs F. Hughes. Scores: Miss D. Fawdray 76, Miss E. Fawdray 74, Mrs T, Hughes 74, Mrs G. CARD MATCH A friendly euchre and cribbage match. 24 a-side, was played on Wednesday evening between the Loyal Geraldine Lodge and Victoria Lodge, and resulted in a win for the former by 64 games to 53.
