PLUNKET SOCIETY The fourteenth annual meeting of the Temuka Plunket Society was held yesterday afternoon, the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan) presiding. The resignation of Mrs Ross Brodie from the presidency was received. In moving that the resignation be accepted the Mayor said he was sure all would regret the decision that Mrs Brodie had made. She had conducted the affairs of the Society for six years with a great deal of enthusiasm and in a manner that had reflected credit on both the society and herself. The secretary (Mrs A. S. Mclnnes) said that all realised what a great amount Mrs Brodie had done for the Society as its president. When a person saw fit to travel 19 miles each month to attend the meetings it spoke volumes for her interest. The remarks were supported by Miss G. A. Brown and the motion was carried, it being decided to forward a letter of appreciation of her work and interest during a long association with the Branch. Miss G. A. Brown referred to the good services rendered to the Society by the secretary. That office demanded a great amount of time and work, and all would agree that it had been well carried out by Mrs Mclnnes for a number of years. On Miss Brown’s proposal a vote of thanks was passed to the secretary. The annual report stated that the Society had now been operating in the district for 27 years, it having been a part of tile Timaru district for the first 12 years. The work was well established and most mothers, realising the value of it, were now availing themselves of the service. The finances w r ere satisfactory and the committee w T as endeavouring to make the best use of its resources. It was regretted that one of the honorary members, Mrs G. B. Cartwright, had left the district. The resignation of Mrs M. E. Hill who was unable to continue through illhealth, had also been received. During the year the Plunket room and furniture had been renovated and new scales had been purchased. The committee had been well pleased with the success of the newly-established Pleasant Point Office. A donation had been forwarded to the Christchurch Karitane Hospital, which was the hospital for the Temuka district. The branch had been represented at the conference at "Wellington by Mrs Brodie. The car had registered 26,000 miles and mechanically was in good condition. Thanks were due to the many people who had helped the Society’s work through the year. The balance-sheet showed that after commencing the year with £365/16/9 in hand the Branch had collected £422 0/10 and made payments amounting to £443. There was a credit in the general account of £344/5/10. The assets amounted to £465/9/10. In moving that the annual report and balance-sheet be adopted, the chairman congratulated the Society on its progressive year. There was a fine credit balance and there was no doubt but that the committee had conducted the affairs of the branch most creditably. Undoubtedly a great deal of gratitude was due to the women throughout New Zealand who carried on the very useful work of the Society. The report also reflected credit on the work of Nurse V. Brown who had conducted her work in a most efficient and capable manner. The president said that the real value of Miss Brown’s work was reflected in the pleasure and satisfaction of the mothers of the district who were unanimous in their tributes and high opinion of the nurse. The annual report was then adopted without discussion. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett M.P.; president, Miss G. A. Brown; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames G. W. Armitage, A. W.
