Mr E. A. Sibley (Wellington) is a guest at the Grand. Mr J. G. Britland, who has been mathematics master at the Whangarel High School since 1925, has been appointed to a similar position on the staff of the Dannevirke High School. Messrs G. E. Bray (Waimate), A. M. Lawn (Dunedin), H. A. Hungerford, A. E. Beaumont and J. Henderson (Christchurch) are staying at the Dominion. Messrs C. W. Robinson, Douglas Cox (Christchurch), W. A. Slowley (Dunedin), H. Vickey (Wellington) are registered at the Grosvenor. Recent arrivals at the Empire include: Messrs M. Gentles, D. Selbie, T. H. Mills, A. V. Just, R. E. Voller, W. R. Coles, J. W. Burtenshaw (Christchurch), H. B. Meyer (Palmerston North), A. J. Foster (Dunedin), F. Fay (Wellington). Mr E. H. Northcroft was sworn in at Auckland yesterday as a Judge of the Supreme Court, and later left for Wellington. It is likely that his headquarters will be Christchurch, and he will preside at his first session on the West Coast.
Mr A. J. Tresidder, for the last six years clerk of the Court, Official Assignee and registrar of electors at Whangarei, has been promoted to Nelson. Mr J C. Harding, clerk at Nelson, has been transferred to Tauranga, to succeed Mr M. Simmonds, who is going to Cromwell. Mr P. M. Firth, manager of the New Zealand Government Tourist Office at Melbourne for the last five years, who has been appointed New Zealand Trade and Tourist Commissioner in the Western States of America, arrived by the Maunganui from Sydney on Monday. He will spend some weeks in New Zealand before proceed -g to San Francisco.
The Very Rev. Father T. Segrief, S.M., Rector of St. John’s College. Woodlawn. Lismore. New South Wales, and the Rev. Father J. Monaghan, S. also of Woodlawn, arrived from Sydney by the Maunganui on Monday to attend the Provincial Chapter of the Society of Mary’ in Wellington. Others who arrived to attend the proceedings were the Rev. Father H. McDonnell, S.M., and the Rev. Father T. Heffeman. S.M.
