TEMUKA STOCK SALE VALUES A LITTLE EASIER The fortnightly sale was held yesterday at Temuka Saleyards. In spite of the fact that this was the second occasion this week when butchers had large entries of fat sheep and cattle placed before them, the sale, although a little easier, did not recede so much as anticipated. Fat Cattle.—More than 100 head were yarded, the quality being inferior to that of the stock offered at Monday’s sale at Pleasant Point. Prices were slightly easier, owing to butchers holding supplies. Values were: Fat steers b t, £5/7/6 to £6/2/6, light. £3/12/6 to £4/2/6; fat cows. best. £4/2/6 to £6/7/6. medium, £3 to £3/12/6, inferior, 37/6 to £2/7/6; fat heifers £2/17/6 to £4/17/6; runners to £2/7/6; vealers 13/6 to 29/-. Store Cattle.—The bulk of the entry was made up of aged empty cows, which showed an appreciation of about 3/6 a head. Sales were: Bulls to 25/-; empty two-year heifers passed at 37/-; 18-month steers passed at 27/6; empty cows 10/6 to £2; yearlings 17/-. Dairy Cattle.—No change was noticed in this section, a fair part of the entry being inferior late calvers. Sales were: Cows in profit 30/- to £3; springing cows £2/15/- to £4/15/-; springing heifers passed at £4/10/-. Pigs.—Another large entry was on offer. Weaner pigs sold at late rates but stores were back by 4/- a head. Values were: Weaners 3/6 to 10/-; slips 9/- to 14/-; store pigs 15/- to 22/-; porkers to 33/-; baconers to £2/5/-. Fat Lambs.—About 300 head were placed before exporters, the quality being only medium. Prices were the equal of late rates. Best fat lambs made 17/- to 18/7 and medium 15/to 16/-. Fat Sheep.—Two races were forward, the quality being inferior to that offered at Monday's sale at Pleasant Point. Owing to heavy supplies butchers’ sheep were easier by about 2/- a head. Sales were: Fat ewes, best 15/- to 17/6, exporters 11/- to 13/9, light 9 6 to 10/3; fat wethers, prime 25/- to 27/-, medium 21/6 to 23 9. Store Sheep.—A good many pens if inferior, thin ewes were included in the entry, most of which were passed in at auction. The sales which were made were on a par with other sales. Prices were: Small 2-shear ewes 19/3; failing mouth ewes 6/10 to 10/1; s.m. ewes 16/-; 2 and 4-tooth ewes 23/7; ewe lambs 14/6 to 15/6; wethers 13/9 to 20/-.
