“ONE IS GUILTY”

THRILLING MYSTERY DRAMA BELLAMY FEATURED The second in the series of Columbia’s murder-mystery dramas featuring Ralph Bellamy in the role of Inspector Trent, a fictional crime detective that is growing in popularity to the stature of a Philo Vance. Sherlock Holmes. Charlie Chan and others of their fraternity, will be showing at the Majestic Theatre under the title, “One Is Guilty,” on Wednesday next. The Columbia sudios, believing that no production can be better than its cast, selected an important array of prominent players to enact the many featured roles. The film plot revolves around the murder of “Kid” Roberts, unpopular prize ring champion, and the subsequent killing of his manager in the Rexford Arms apartments. Bellamy, ranked among the ten most prominent male actors to-day, has been in Hollywood for less than three years. Before that he was an established Broadway star. He received his dramatic training during nine years of vaudeville, beginning when he ran away from home while still in high school to join a Shakesperean repertory company. Shirley Grey, who was selected for the part of “Sally,” is also a vaudeville company and Broadway graduate, coming to Hollywood four years ago under contract to Samuel Goldwyn. She has appeared in a number of important productions.

Willard Robertson, cast as the owner of the apartment house, came to Hollywood in 1930 as a scenarist, but soon decided he preferred greaspaint to ink. He has been prominent on Broadway for 20 years as an actor, director, stage manager, and playwright. Rita La Roy, who plays Robertson’s wife, is the daughter of a Scotch lord and a French dancer. She ran away from an orphanage at the age of 13, earning her living as a waitress, housemaid, clerk, milliner and actress. She arrived in Hollywood in 1928 when she was costarred with Rod La Rocque in “The Delightful Rogue.” She invariably plays “bad, bad women.”
