MOTOR CYCLING
SOUTH CANTERBURY CLUB EIGHT HOUR TRIAL The annual eight Hour Trial of the South Canterbury Motor Cycle Club was held during the week-end in perfect weather. The course was a total distance of 147 miles, and covered the greater part of South Canterbury. The start was at 9.30 a.m. at Saltwater Creek. The course went to Pareora bridge, from there through Gordon’s Valley to Maungati; through Cannington to the back of Cave, to Albury and then through Waratali Station to Burke’s Pass. Lunch was had at the Pass Hotel after which was held an easy starting test and brake test. At 2 p.m. the first man was on the road again and came through Fairlie over seven miles of grass road which eventually came out at Cattle Valley. From there the course went to Woodbury through Geraldine and Timaru the first man arriving to schedule time 4.37 p.m. The officials were: Organiser, Mr R. G. Slade; course stewards, Messrs G. Potts and T. Stoddart; officials, Messrs R. A. Rodgers, F. Triggs, Wood. T. King, G. King, K. Vincent, and J. Parmenter./ Results: A. Lister (A.J.S.), 485 points, Lewis cup and miniature, trophy order valued 10/6 and pair of mitts, presented by Mr R. G. Slade .. 1 R. Rodgers, 4751- points, miniature cup. trophy order valued 7/6. and one gallon of oil, presented by J. J. Niven and Co., td. .. 2 Bob Rodgers (8.5. A.), 473 J points, miniature cup, trophy order valued 5/- 3 Pts. E. Cunningham, Oamaru (8.5. A.) 4672 s R. Davey, Oamaru (8.5. A.) .. .. 4626 Booth, Oamaru (A.J.S.) 462 M. R.
