GOOD RECORD

A BRILLIANT AMATEUR “Jock” Wilson, the Marton amateur light-weight, has a record that takes some beating (says the “New Zealand Free Lance”). Though he has not yet won a New Zealand title, he has been a competitor at the big meeting. Starting in the game in 1924 at Frankton when just seventeen years of age, Wilson has been boxing consistently ever since in the amateur ranks. During his ring career “Jock” has fought practically all over the North Island, and has met champions and nonchampions alike. Up to date Wilson has had sixty-five amateur contests, of which he has won forty-five. Among those who went under to him were J. M‘Kay and Jack Jarvis, both of whom are now prominent professionals. He lost a hair-line decision to the late Harry Johns, then champion of New Zealand. “Jock” sticks to the amateur ranks like he sticks to his railway job. He fights more for love of a dust-up than for actual ring glory.

This Marton pug is as w T ell known for his sportsmanship as he is for his ring prowess.
