BE INDIVIDUAL

BUT CONSIDER YOUR COLOUR SCHEMES Some very helpful advice in regard to dressing, especially for those who wish to be individual, is given by Mr Oliver Messel, who has designed the dresses for many of London's big stage productions. He says: The more simple the clothes the better for the daytime. If you want to be eccentric show it in your hat. In the evening you may indulge in individual dressing. But don’t have more than one eccentric motive in your dress. For instance, if you have an elaborate neck-line, keep everything else plain. It is difficult to generalise about colours, but here are some points worth remembering: More than two colours are apt to confuse any design; mauve is bad for the sallow; dark blue slims the figure. Black and white, or plain black and plain white are becoming to almost everyone. Bright greens are difficult to wear; greys are lovely for most complexions; beware of bright pinks unless you have a very dark skin or are very sunburnt. Flesh tints are usually good for evening; yellows are apt to make the complexion look dull. Be very careful to wear slim-fitting undies, especially with evening dress. Don’t wear your hair in deep, mechanical waves, and don’t let it hang too long on the back of the neck. Walk with perfect balance. Many people are inclined to walk like a hen.
