CLAIM TO TITLE

MELBOURNE CONSTABLE LONDON, April 27. Lady Aberdeen, daughter erf the first Baron Tweedmouth, told a representative of the “Daily Mirror” that there was no connection between her branch of the Majoribanks family and the Melbourne constable William Majoribanks, reported to be claiming the Tweedmouth title. The third Lord Tweedmouth died in England this week. He was Lord-in-Waiting to the King. “My secretary remembers receiving a letter many years ago, in which Constable Majoribanks inquired about the connection,” Lady Aberdeen said. “I am the last of my father’s family.” Constable Majoribanks is the eldest direct male descendant of William Majoribanks, a young medical student, who arrived in Victoria in 1840. Like other members of his family in Victoria, he spells his name as it is pronounced—Marchbanks.
