HILTON SCHOOL JUBILEE PRELIMINARY MEETING The annual householders’ meeting at Hilton was held in the school, there being a very fair attendance. The chairman (Mr E. O. Winmill) read the report and balance-sheet, which were adopted. The balance-sheet disclosed a satisfactory credit balance. Votes of thanks were passed to the committee and teaching staff, and the meeting adjourned. At the close of the householders’ meeting a number of ex-pupils and residents of the district met to discuss the holding of a diamond jubilee during 1935. Mr A. E. Archibald presided. The chairman explained that the first Hilton School had been opened on November 1, 1875, the school then being known as Kakahu. In 1884 the Kakahu Bush school was opened, and the name of the Kakahu School w r as changed to Hilton. After some discussion it was decided to hold the jubilee celebrations towards the end of October. Mr E. O. Winmill then took the chair while a committee was elected. He said that the school committee and the teaching staff were willing to assist the jubilee committee. Mr A. E.
