DARING ACT OF REDS

INCIDENT IN PROCESSION United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, May 6. During the Royal procession a banner across Fleet Street, inscribed “Long May They Reign,” suddenly changed character as their Majesties passed. The outer portion fell away, revealing the inscription, “Workers of All Lands United,” and the sign of the hammer and sickle. Men and women immediately tore down the banner, and police visited the building from which it was suspended. The reverse side of the banner revealed the following inscription: “The glorious reign of unemployment, hunger and war.” The remains of the banner will be burned in the Hyde Park bonfire to-night.

Later information regarding the banner incident shows at 1 o'clock in the morning, half a dozen men drew up in a closed van bearing a Government mark and spent a couple of hours affixing the banner across the road without entering the buildings from which it was suspended. Nobody interfered with the men though a number of all night sightseers watched the proceedings. Those present in the buildings believed that owing to the departmental mark on the van, the men were working under official orders.
