ELECTIONS TO-DAY

COMPLETE LIST OF CANDIDATES SYSTEM OF VOTING The municipal and county elections will be held in Timaru and throughout South Canterbury to-day. In Timaru more than the required number of candidates are offering for the Mayoralty, Borough Council, Hospital Board, Harbour Board and Power Board, so that elections will be necessary in each case. Polling will commence at 9 o’clock and will cease at 7 o’clock. Some doubt has existed in the minds of some electors in the Borough concerning the method of voting. The returning officers have stated clearly that electors must cross out the names of candidates they do not desire to vote for. Any other marking will render the vote informal. Another point on which there appeared to be doubt is the elegibility of citizens to vote. All persons, provided they are on the roll, whether they are ratepayers or not, are entitled to vote. The only instance in which only ratepayers vote is when a loan poll is being taken, and to-day no such issue is involved. In order to avoid congestion, electors would be advised to vote as early in the day as possible. The full list of candidates for local bodies in Timaru is as under: Mayoralty George Benstead George Thurston Koller Alexander McLean Paterson Thomas William Satterthwaite Borough Council Percy Barnes Foote Alfred George Foster William Henry Hall James Reese Hart Fred Bartlett Hawkey Frederick Alfred Hilton John Leffett Howard Alfred Sydney Kinsman George Thurston Koller Charles Henry Lennon Henry Joseph Mathers Sidney Arthur Odell Matthew Henry Richards Robert Stewart William Glenholm Tweedy Percy Cornelius Vinnell Percy Herbert Wild Harbour Board Isaac James Bradley Alfred George Foster Russell Stanley Goodman Ernest Rupert Isaac David Clarkson Turnbull Hospital Board Muriel Ernesta Hilton George Thurston Koller Charles Austin Paterson Robert W.
