THE WEATHER
Dominion Meteorologist General Situation.—The depression mentioned yesterday has just crossed the Dominion and is very deep. An anti-cyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Winds.—Becoming southerly generally and of gale force in many places. Seas (New Zealand waters). —High south of Castlepoint, elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea.— Southerly gales and rough to high seas, but gradually moderating. Weather.—Becoming fine in the western districts of the South Island, otherwise cold, changeable and squally, with passing heavy showers and hail in places. Mr J. 1.. Wooles southerly. Weather.—Continue cold, occasional rain or sleet showers still likely, but improving. Conditions in Timaru A blustering, cold westerly wind made conditions most unpleasant in Timaru yesterday, when the temperature was lower than it had been for some time previously. The wind subsided in the evening and the night was fine and frosty.
