RADIO LICENSES
LATEST OFFICIAL FIGURES Radio receiving licenses in New Zealand are increasing at an accelerating rate according to the official figures released by the Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department. The grand total of radio licenses taken out as at March 31, is 154.923. including 152,489 receiving licenses, the latter figures showing an increase in 12 months of 34,705, whereas the increases in the same class of license for the preceding year was 24,573. Listeners’ licenses are distributed as follows: — Licenses Increase Auckland .. .. 46,638 11.712 Canterbury .. 27,792 6.823 Otago 20,964 5,351 Wellington .. 57.095 10,819 In addition to the listeners’ licenses there are 1214 dealers’ licenses, 873 issued to experimental amateurs, three for experimental research, 319 free to blind persons and institutions for the blind, and 25 broadcasting licenses.
