JUBILEE PROCESSION REHEARSED THOUSANDS FLOCKING TO LONDON United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph -Copvrlf.il t LONDON, April 30. Early workers arriving in London this morning were surprised to find the route of the Royal procession on May 6 closed to traffic. Buses and cars were diverted to other streets, the occasion being a full rehearsal of the King’s drive to St. Paul’s Cathedral. Starting from Buckingham Palace soon after dawn, 11 processions traversed the route exactly as they will on May 6, except that the escorts were clad in khaki. Instead of full dress. Landaus and brakes represented all the State carriages, except the King's Coach which participated in the rehearsal, drawn by the six famous Windsor Castle greys. Throughout the entire route the cession was carefully timed by numerous officials with stop-watches, and it was carried out without a hitch. Crowds Throng Streets Owing to the unfavourable weather and the great pressure of work in preparation for the Silver Jubilee celebrations, the King cancelled his proposed visit to-day to the race meeting at Newmarket. Accompanied by the Queen, his Majesty returned to London and will remain at Buckingham Palace until after the celebrations. Great crowds again thronged the streets in the West End of London last night to see the jubilee decorations and floodlighting effects. The main schemes of decoration are now almost complete. When the King and Queen returned from Windsor Castle to Buckingham Palace in preparation for the jubilee, large crowds cheered them. In the course of a busy day they inspected and approved of the final plans for next week’s celebrations. The King also received General Hertzog, Prime Minister of South Africa. FEELING IN HONGKONG HOSTILE JAPANESE PROPAGANDAALLEGED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received May 1, 8.40 p.m.) HONGKONG, May 1. Underground propaganda, verbal and by pamphlet, to induce the Chinese not to participate in the Jubilee celebrations is evident here. While it is difficult to trace the originators, it is believed the Japanese are concerned in the matter, and in this connection it is stated that a Japanese street orator, disguised as a Chinese, recently has been stressing the SinoJapanese blood brotherhood. Whilst the great majority of the Chinese are evincing loyalty and enthusiasm, some firms are said to be so seared that they are disinclined to mention the King’s name in their decorations.
