PHILATELIC SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING There was a good attendance at the eighth annual general meeting of the Timaru Philatelic Society. The president, Mr C. S. Fraser, in reviewing the year’s work, commented on the strong position of the Society. Twenty-eight new members had joined during the year, being the membership up to 151. It was pleasing to see that stamp collecting was being fostered among the younger generation, for during the winter 12 boys from Grantchester School attended a meeting and geatly appreciated the programme arranged for them. One of the outstanding items of the year was the visit of a party from the Society to the home of Sir Heaton Rhodes at Tai Tapu. This trip was made possible through the Christchurch Philatelic Society and the courtesy of Sir Heaton Rhodes. His display of New Zealand full face Queens was a fine treat, and one to be remembered. The year had ended with an excess of income of £3O Is sd, bringing the profit and loss account to £9B 7s, which must be considered a fine achievement for seven years trading. During the year 25 exchange books valued at £1156 3s had been sent out on circuit, from which sales totalling £313 12s were recorded. The exchange superintendent Mr A. F. M. Paterson was to be complimented on his excellent work. The report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr Fraser and Mr H. Parker. Mr Rule complimented the officers responsible for presenting the affairs of the Society in such a creditable manner. The election of officers resulted: Patron—Sir Heaton Rhodes; president, Mr C. S. Fraser; vice-president, Mr A. J. McPherson; exchange superintendent and secretary, Mr A. F. M. Paterson; auditor, Mr E. S. Ayres; committee, Dr. J. C. Mcßenzie, Messrs H. Harbott, W. Sides, J. D. H. Buchanan, S. H. Parker and J. Hinchey. Two new members were elected. Supper was dispensed, during which items of interest to stamp collectors were discussed.
