CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

SPECIAL MEETING A special general meeting of the members of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society w’as held on Monday evening. Present—Mr R. A. Rodgers (president) and about 25 members. Mr Rodgers explained that he had called the meeting to consider the social side of the Society’s activities. Several members had spoken to him about doing something for members other than the sports meeting, and he suggested that a social committee should be formed. According to the rules this was permissible. After a general discussion, it w f as decided to elect a social committee of 14 members, the committee to act until the annual meeting in 1936. The committee shall elect its own chairman and other officers. The duties of the committee shall be to arrange socials or other functions it may consider desirable to assist in raising funds for the Society, and to pay to the secretary any accumulated funds at least once a month. The committee was then set up, comprising Messrs R. A. Rodgers, Neal Burns, T. Jacobs, A. Hay, A. M. Kilgour. J. Glass, A. Mathieson, W. Duncan. Ron. Munro, W. Andrew. W. Morrison, F. Cumming and J. W. Waldie.

The chairman asked for recommendations to the committee. It was decided that a Jubilee Caledonian Ball be held round about the end of May. Mr A. Mathieson was asked to act as secretary in the meantime.

A meeting of directors was held after the special meeting. Present —Messrs R. A. Rodgers (chairman). R. A. Burns, C. Hall, N. Bums. R. Oliphant, A. Hav, T. Jacobs, R. Munro. A. Dunn. E. J. Fairbi'other, J. O’Leary and J. W. Waldie.

The chairman reported that he had received an offer for the old iron from the grandstand which he considered very fair, and would recommend that it be accepted. After a short discussion it was decided to agree to the chairman’s suggestion.

It was decided that the judges of music and dancing be voted £l/1/- eacli for their services at New Year. Mr W. Morrison was elected a new member.
