EFFICIENCY CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Timaru Efficiency Club states that the past season was a most successful one. The total active membership was 18, among whom were several foundation members. The report continues: We regret to record the death of one of our keenest members, Mr E. Firkin, and extend our sincere sympathy to his relatives. Thirty meetings were held, all of which were well attended. The club this season followed the lines of the London Sell More Club, in the giving of demonstration sales and papers by members. Both the papers and demonstration sales showed careful preparation and produced interesting discussions. Thanks are due to the different visiting speakers who addressed us. namely:— Messrs A. M. Paterson, D. Papprill, S. Lucy, W. Vance. W. Smither, P. W. Young and W. Sandrey. Their addresses proved most beneficial and contributed materially to the success of the season. During the year, Dr. William C. Fern, D.Sc.., F.R.S.A., toured New Zealand and Timaru was fortunate in securing a visit. A luncheon organised by the club was attended by some 250 business men and women, the club acting as hosts. Dr. Fern delivered a most inspiring address on “Organising for Success,” illustrating it with many witty stories. Mr H. D. Oddie on behalf of the Club, presented Dr. Fern with a souvenir booklet of Timaru views, autographed by club members. Early in the season it was thought advisable to change the club name from “The Business Men’s Study Circle” to the “Timaru Efficiency Club.” This motion was carried unanimously In conclusion we wish to thank all members for their loyal support during the season, and trust that 1935 will be more successful still.
