Mr E. B. Fraser (Auckland) is a guest at the Grosvenor. Mr F. J. McKay (Invercargill) is staying at the Empire. Guests at the Grosvenor include Messrs E. A. Hatch and M. R. Jameson (Christchurch).

Dr. and Mrs Perry Swart, of Beverley Hills, California, arrived at Wellington by the Maunangui to spend a short holiday in the Dominion. Mr J. R. Frethey, chief accountant of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., will leave for London in the Wairangi on Friday. Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., who has been spending a holiday in the Mackenzie Country after a short illness, has returned to Timaru much benefited in health.

Included in the guests at the Dominion are Messrs R. C . Wilks (Hororata), D. C. Fraser. T. Cuddie (Dunedin). J. Downes, E. J. Woodbury, F. E. Dornwell and D. J. Cummings (Christchureh).

Mr A. C. Marks, of Auckland, has been appointed by the New Zealand Council of the British and Foreign Bible Society as its organising secretary for the Canierbury-Westland area, in succession to the Rev. A. W. Stuart.

Dr. H. M. Buchanan, superintendent of the mental hospital at Auckland, has been transferred to take temporary charge at Porirua for six months. Dr. J. V. Williams, who is in charge of Porirua, has been transferred to Nelson, and the Nelson superintendent, Dr. B. D. Hart, to Auckland. Messrs W. Hale (Dunedin). A. Buckham (Queenstown), J. H. Waight, H. J. Bowlker and R. F. Hunter (Christchurch) are staying at the Empire. Mr L. Pickering, general manager of the Napier Gas Company, who has been visiting America, returned to New Zealand by the Maunganui on Monday. Mr E. D. • Mosley, S.M., after considering the question of his appointment as senior Magistrate at Wellington, has decided to accept the office and he will leave Christchurch as soon as he has settled certain private affairs. His place on the Christchurch Bench will be taken by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. A new Magistrate will probably be appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the transfer of Mr H. P. La wry, S.M., to Wellington.

Mr A. W. Gibb. 8.A., was entertained yesterday by the staff of the Boys’ High School. Mr Gibb has been an assistant master in the preparatory department during the last three years, and is now taking up the headmastership of the Hazelburn School. Mr D. S. Kemshed, who made Mr Gibb a small presentation on behalf of the staff, referred to the good services he had rendered the school music. As accompanist for the school singing, acting conductor of the band during 1934. and leader of the choir, he had given invaluable service. Mr Moore, as senior paid a tribute to the work that Mr Gibb had done so cheerfully and efficientlv. bringing to his activities an insight and inspiration that should enright the musical lives of those he taught. Mr Gibb, in thanking those present the staff that what he had done had given him great pleasure. “Music that you participate in brings more pleasure than that which you listen to.” he declared.
