THE TIMARU MAYORALTY
To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ’’ Sir,—As stated in your sub-leader in to-day’s issue of “The Herald,” we “the people of Timaru do not exaggerate when we express our thanks to his Worship the Mayor and Councillors for their efficient and dignified performance of administrative work.” The general concensus of opinion is “well done.” One has but to read through the Mayor’s statement of even date to be struck by the absence of that capital letter, “I.” No love of the limelight is shown. Our worthy Mayor carries into his report the old-time axiom, “Honour to whom honour is due.” All through the four years of his Mayoralty, there have been dignity, resourcefulness and a ready grasp of any situation as required. Whether it be the reception of a Prince, or presiding at any function, our Mayor is always “at home” and equal to the occasion. In these varied duties how very ably has the Mayoress been an inspiration to him. Her tactfulness and grace single her out and entitle her to our highest esteem. Sect or class, be they what they may, we as the townspeople were always certain of her warmest assistance. That these two worthy citizens may long occupy the proud positions they now hold, is the earnest desire of many Timaruvians.—l am, etc., OBSERVER. Timaru, April 30.
