BEAUTY OF OLD LACE
So many women have pieces of exquisite old lace given to them by mothers and grandmothers, and lament that they can never wear it on modern dresses. Women clever with their fingers can make sets of lace
d’oyleys for dinner and luncheon party use, and dip them when made into a weak coffee or tea solution to give them the vellum shade that harmonises with a walnut dark oak, or mahogany table. Since on this type of dinner table, a hot plate mat must be placed underneath the d’oyley, it is possible to buy cheaply sets of these mats in different sizes that exactly match a table.
