VISIT TO WELLINGTON By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, March 23. The Australian Squadron arrived on an informal visit at 7 o’clock this morning from Hauraki Gulf and berthed at various wharves. Rear-Admiral Ford left the flagship, Canberra, at 9.30 to pay official calls, a salute of 13 guns from Point Jerningham being fired as he left the ship. The vessels will remain in Wellington for varying periods. The destroyer Vendetta is leaving for New Plymouth on Monday, the destroyers Stuart and Voyager for Sydney on March 28, the Canberra for Lyttelton on March 29, the Sussex for Dunedin on March 31, then to Hobart. The New Zealand warships Diomede and Leith are in port, and the usual courtesies are being exchanged. Various entertainments for officers and men have been arranged by the Navy League and other organisations. There will be an Australian Squadron dance on the Canberra on Tuesday. While in the Hauraki Gulf, manoeuvres were carried out. These included an anti-aircraft shoot, subcalibre shooting by destroyers and torpedo attacks both day and night. Fine weather was experienced on the trip to Wellington.
