FLANNAGAN CUP RACE Bv Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, March 24. An open sea swim of about two miles for the Flannagan Cup, held on Saturday, was won by D. Gay ton lmin (New Plymouth), J. Ryan 6min (Stratford) being second, D. Burton 30sec (Opunake) third and Miss W. Richardson lOmin (New Plymouth) fourth. There were seventeen competitions including F. S. Jennings (Christchurch), V. Hellyer (Wanganui). Fourteen finished. Gayton’s sister, Bessie Gayton, twice previously won the race. Ryan, who was second, has one compltely paralysed leg. Gayton also gained fastest time, creating a record for the race.
