OAMARU AUTUMN MEETING

ANNIVERSARY DAY PROGRAMME SAM SMITH SURPRISES Beautifully fine weather, combined with the Anniversary Day holiday, was responsible for a much improved attendance for the second day of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s autumn fixture, and the totalisator handled £9939/10/-, compared with £7850 on the second day a year ago. The aggregate for the meeting was £16,508, an increase of £1352'10/- on last year’s figures of £15.156/10/-. The track was again fast and firm, dust being raised by the horses in the later races in spite of some showers in the early morning. Enwood won the open sprint in 1.12 4-5. and Capital the hack handicap in 1.13, times seldom bettered on the course. Grecian Prince and Capital followed up their first day victories, and Guarantee just failed to complete a double. Dillon Queen scored another easy win in the harness section. L. J.
