Dr. Guy Scholefield, Parliamentary Librarian (Wellington), who is spending a camping holiday in South Canterbury, is visiting Timaru. Mr A. S. Newland, district manager of the Public Trust Office. Taumarunui, has received notice of his appointment as district manager at Tauranga. Messrs F. W. Woodward, G. Gillespie (Christchurch) and R. G. Todd (Dunedin) were visitors to the Empire during the week-end. Recent arrivals at the Grosvenor include: Messrs H. James. F. Vernon, J. G. L. Vernon, E. A. Hatch, Dr. J. D. Bellringer (Christchurch), H. Deane (Auckland). • Messrs F. K. J. Cook, I. C. Glendining (Dunedin), R. Ramsay (Invercargill), H. Cullen (Owaka) and T. de la Rue (U.S.A.) were week-end guests at the Dominion. Messrs A. E. and B. E. Drevermann, brothers of the late Fritz Drevermann, who were the guests of Mrs Davidson. 12 Williams Street, have left on their return to Melbourne. Mr L. E. Smith, who for the last four years has been on the staff of the Ashburton County Council, has been appointed, from 73 applicants, to the position of assistant county clerk at Waimate. Mr W. H. Adamson, who has been for some years auctioneer for Messrs J. £. Watson and Co.. Ltd., Gore, has been appointed by Messrs Stronach. Morris and Co., Ltd., to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr Howard W. Bailey. Members of the Dunedin railway staff gathered at the goods office on Friday to bid farewell to Mr Thomas Drumm, who is retiring on superannuation after serving for a number of years in the goods office at Dunedin. On behalf of his fellow employees Mr F. Raines, goods agent, presented Mr Drumm with a roll of notes. Ministers of the Crown, with the exception of the Hon. J. A. Young, who is Minister-in-attendance on his Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester during his tour of the Dominion, are having a vacation at their homes in different parts of the country. It is anticipated that most of them will return this week to their administrative suites in Parliament House.
