“RICHEST MAN IN COMMONS’’ When Mr Samuel Samuel, Conservative M.P. for Putney, died in October, he was reputed to be the richest member of the House of Commons. He was even described as the richest man in Europe. When Mr Samuel’s will is published, however, says the Sunday Express, it will reveal that he died a comparatively poor man, although he had made a vast fortune from oil, banking, shipping, and merchandise. Lord Bearsted, Mr Samuel’s nephew, in an interview, said that Mr Samuel had given away practically all his wealth before he died. “My uncle,” said Lord Bearsted, “has left comparatively little money. He could not help making money, but he also could not help giving it away. He gave away his millions as fast as he made them. "Mr Samuel kept in closest touch with his many nephews, but not one of us knows how much money he made. Neither do we know to whom he gave his money. Few men have done so much good Vith so much secrecy. Details of his estate will be made known shortly. Many people will be surprised when they read his will.”
