PETERSEN DEFEATS COOK United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 17. In a contest at Albert Hall for the British and Empire heavyweight championships, Petersen (holder) outpointed George Cook, the Australian veteran. Fight Described Cook made a very gallant effort. He appeared in the early rounds to have the champion’s measure, but was beaten by Petersen’s staying power. The Australian early scored with left hooks to the head, and clever body punches. He refused to be tempted by Petersen’s persistent feints, and exhibited an almost impregnable defence. Petersen scored heavily in the eleventh round. Cook won applause for an amazing rally, resulting in a fierce two-handed exchange, the Australian emerging with his left eye bleeding. The champion in the fourteenth round, sent Cook down for a count of six. The Australian rallied gamely, but was badly punished. The bridge of his nose was cut, but he courageously jontinued to withstand Petersen’s effort to score a knock-out.
