To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald " Sir,—May I, through your valued columns, express my thanks, on bdhalf of the New Zealand Institute for the Blind, for the splendid assistance rendered me during my work in South Canterbury. The response to our appeal for financial assistance has been most gratifying, and has exceeded expectations. In due course full acknowledgement w 7 ill be shown in the annual report and balance sheet of the Institute, but I wish here and now, to express my hearty thanks and appreciation to the many kind people who have so willingly assisted me; to the Rotary Club, the ~ Mayors of the boroughs, women’s organisations, and many private individuals, who have helped so willingly. Also, I wish to specially thank those kind people who have placed their cars at my disposal, to enable me to reach the distant parts of the district. I wish also to thank the press for assistance in publicity work which has made my task easier for me. In conclusion, let me say that the results have been most gratifying, especially with regard to the organising work achieved, and the assurance of help in the future towards more permanent financial stability for our Institute.— I am, etc.,

JAMES MONFRIES. Representative for the New Zealand Institute for the Blind. Timaru, December 18.
