DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
ACCOUNTS PRESENTED Matters in connection with the recent Main School Diamond Jubilee were discussed at a general meeting of ex-pupils held on Monday evening. Mr C. E. Kerr, chairman of the Jubilee Executive, presided. A detailed statement of accounts was read by the treasurer (Mr A. Dephoff) and the explicit statement was highly commented on. The Executive suggested handing over the credit balance of £IOO 5s lOd to the School Committee, with a recommendation that £SO be set aside for a permanent memorial of . the •jubilee, such memorial to take either of the following forms—sun dial, concrete kerb for gardens, improvement, of school war memorial and enlarged photos of the jubilee, the remainder, it was suggested to be credited to the school funds. The adoption of the balance sheet was moved by Mr T. C. Baker, seconded by Mrs Brewer, and carried. The chairman spoke of the success of the jubilee, and said that the many complimentary remarks from visitors were greatly appreciated. The Executive had provided first class functions, at a minimum charge. Credit was due to the secretary (Mr C. R. Home) and the treasurer (Mr A. DephofF) for the great amount of work they had carried out. Mr Kerr moved a comprehensive vote of thanks to those who had assisted the Executive by their loyal support. The finances, he said, had been carefully conserved from the outset, and the happy culmination of the jubilee, social and financial redounded to the credit of all concerned. The recommendations of the Executive were approved by the meeting. Executive Complimented Mr J. W. Pueen, chairman of the Main School Committee, complimented the Executive and sub-committee on bringing together scholars of former days, all having had a happy time. The School Committee would certainly accede to the wishes of the meeting in carrying out the suggestions for a permanent record of the jubilee. Votes of thanks to the Executive for their services, also to the School Committee and staff for their assistance in, making the celebrations a success, were carried by acclamation. Before closing the meeting Mr Kerr stated that his term of office as chairman had been a happy and pleasant one, and the co-operation and enthusiasm of the Executive had lightened his duties considerably.
