PLEASANT POINT SALE

FAT LAMBS IMPROVE Contrary to expectations large yardings in all sections were forward for yesterday’s sale at Pleasant Point yards. It was thought that the wool sale would effect the entries but this was not the case. Fat cattle.—The total beef entered was about 60 head which sold at values on a par with the Temuka sale. Some very choice steers were forward. Values were: Fat steers (best) £7/7 6 to £B/12/6; fat steers light £4/12/6 to £6/2/6; fat heifers £3/17/6 to £6/17 6; fat cows (best) £5/2/6 to £6/7/6; fat cows light £2/2/6 to £3/12/6. Dairy cattle.—No change was noticed in this department, late values being fully maintained. Springing cows made to £4/10/- for a good sort, and springing heifers sold as high as £2/10/-. Store cattle.—A small entry of stores was forward, sales being. Yearling heifers to 31/-, 2-year steers (ordinary) to £3, bulls to £2/15/-. Pigs.—A fair yarding of weaners was offered, these making from 9/- to 15/-. this range being not quite so good as last week’s rates. Fat lambs.—The yarding totalled 800 and it was considered that the sale was an excellent one. even taking into account that the schedule rates were up. All exporters were operating as also were the butchers for lots suitable to their requirements. The range was from 19/- to 23/5. Fat sheep.—Two races were offered most of the sheep being shorn. Exporters were operating for wethers and ewes and the sale was a firm one throughout. Prices were: Shorn wethers 20/- to 23/-, shorn ewes best 15/- to 18-; shorn ewes medium 13to 14/6; ewes in wool to 19/7; wethers in wool to 24/6. Store sheep.—The store sheep sale was a good one for young wethers, but ewe hoggets in the wool were slightly easier. Sales made were: Best twotooth wethers 16 6 to 18/3; ordinary two-tooth wethers 13/5 to 15 8; shorn two-tooth ewes 23/3; woolly ewe hoggets 27/6 to 30, 6; small woolly ewe hoggets 23 6.
