SAMURAI CODE
JAPANESE POLICE OFFICIAL COMMITS SUICIDE United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph —Copyright TOKIO. November 18. Maintaining the traditional Samurai code of loyalty and responsibility, Police Inspector Jubei, of Honda, committed suicide with his own sword, because he guided the Emperor to the wrong street while taking part in a procession through the city. The blunder will also possibly cause the resignation of the Home Minister, the local governor, and others. It was recalled that a similar incident occurred in the reign of the Emperor Maiji, whose train was delayed an hour at manoeuvres at Kyushu, whereupon the station master committed suicide. Recently a soldier who lost his bayonet committed suicide, as all weapons are the Emperor’s property.
