HOOK TENNIS CLUB

The weekly euchre and dance evening of the Hook Tennis Club was most successful. The grand aggregate prizes which were given by Mrs Geo. McKenzie, were won by Mrs J. Rooney, and Mr A. McPherson, and an aggregate prize for four nights, also given by Mrs G. McKenzie, was won by Mr C. Medlicott. A second prize in the grand aggregate kindly given by Mr A. McPherson was won by Mrs H. Henderson. The prizes for the evening were given by Mrs C. Rose and Mr A. McPherson, and won by Mrs A. Burness and Mr F. Grayson, consolation awards going to Miss S. White and Mr A. Burness, jun. A cheese given by Mr T. Gordon, president of Fiag Swamp Tennis Club. Palmerston South, was won by Mr J. Croft, jun. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Rose and Messrs J. Clarke and S. Jones, while Mr C. Rose acted as M.C. TENNIS The following are the results of games played last week in the Waihao Tennis Sub-Association’s C grade competitions: Makikihi v. Willowbridge (Willowbridge names first) Women’s singles—Miss V. Hollamby beat Mrs Davie 6-3, Miss G. Fyall beat Miss N. Geaney 6-4, Miss A. Faulkner lost to Miss T. Neal 2-6, Miss M. Cox beat Miss G. Martin 6-4. Men’s singles—S. Cox lost to H. Shea 5-7. J. Faulkner beat A. Craig 7-3, H. Orford lost to L. Sea 3-7. S. W. Richmind lost to W. Gorinski 2-7. Women’s doubles—Misses Hollamby and Fyall beat Mrs Davie and Miss Geaney 6-4, Misses Faulkner and Cox lost to Misses Neal and Martin 4-6. Mixed doubles—Cox and Miss Hollamby lost to H. Miss Malthus lost to Miss Walker 5-6. Men’s doubles—Westphal and Veitch beet Hunt and Duff 7-3, Wasley and Stenhens lost to Ruane and Breen 6-7. Women’s doubles—Mrs Ford and Miss Veitch lost to Misses Marshall and Duff 4-6, Misses Gardener and Malthus beat Misses McLean and Walker 6-4. Mixed doubles—Westphal and Miss Veitch beat Hunt and Miss Marshall 6-4. Total: Morven 8 sets 72 games; Studholme, 8 sets, 68 games. RANGERS’ BALL The annual ball of the Waimate Rangers held in Olympia Hall was attended by about 130 couples, and proved most successful. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags and greenery, and presented a most attractive appearance. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs Campbell and Mr R. Campbell jun., while Mr Ivan Ellis and Miss J. Deans received the prize in the lucky spot one-step. Mr Geo. Campbell was M.C. Among those present were Mesdames Watters, Henry, H. Searle, J.
