CALEDONIAN SOCIETY MEETS BOXJNG DAY SPORTS A meeting of the directors of the Waimate Caledonian Society was held on Friday night. Present —Messrs W. A. Dunstan (resident), W. G. Paul, A. R. Cooper. L. Betten, J. Betten. F. Drayton. G. Joyce, L. McLauchlan, A. Hawke, C. Clarke. A vote of condolence with the relatives of Mr Hugh Cameron, who had been a valued member of the Society almost since its inception, was carried in silence. The Editor, the “Weekly Scotchman,” Edinburgh, wrote stating that he was forwarding a box of heather gathered from the hills and moors of Scotland for distribution among members of the Society as a simple means of showing interest in fellow countrymen abroad and a wish for closer union. The secretary reported that he had written tendering thanks for the gift which was very highly appreciated. After a long discussion on the sports for Boxing Day, last year’s programme was adopted with the following alterations: —Running: Cash events: 100 yards handicap altered to 75 yards; amateur events: Trophy valued at 7/6 added as third prize in each event. Cycling: John Ross Memorial 2 mile handicap: First prize raised from £lO to £ls; second prize raised from £2 to £3 10s and third prize from £1 to £1 10s. The programme as rearranged was forwarded to the various centre headquarters for approval. Messrs R. Cameron, R. Ross and D. M. Thompson of Palmerston were appointed judges for the pipe music and dancing. Messrs G. Richardson, J. Borthwick and J. Hutt were appointed to fill vacancies on the directorate. Messrs J. Hutt, R. Kelliher and C. Fraser were elected as new members of the Society.
