LOOKING BACK ONE | HUNDRED YEARS j I BRIGHT ECCLESIASTICAL PAGEANT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received November 16, 7.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 16. Though the Centenary celebrations have been in progress for many weeks, Monday will be the real Centenary day, when one hundred years ago the Henty family landed at Portland. The celebrations have been in progress there this week, many events of local importance culminating in a great pageant on Monday, in the presence of the Duke of Gloucester. Rehearsals for the pageant were held to-day, even to driving the bullocks through the streets to accustom them to the commotion which is expected to prevail on Monday. Ushering in Victoria’s new century, a ring of bonfires girdling the State will be lit on Monday night, and there will be displays of fireworks in every town, large or small. CENTURY OF CHURCH HISTORY MEMORIAL STONE FROM ABBEY United Press Association—By Electric Tel egra ph —Copvrlgh t (Received November 16, 7.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 16. Beginning with ecclesiastical pageantry in a street procession, including eleven Bishops in scarlet and purplerobed clergy, the concluding service of the Australian Anglican Assembly, was held in St. Paul’s Cathedral to-day. The occasion was made notable by the presentation by Canon Barry, of a piece of stone from Westminster Abbey, which he asked to be let into the wall of St. Paul’s as a memorial to this century. A token from the Abbey Church, which has been nearly a thousand years standing, to bear witness to the consecration of national life, nurtured by Christianity.
