GOLDEN FASHIONS
METALLIC FABRICS POPULAR The Golden Age has come back with a vengeancce in the world of fashion. But silver, copper—and even glass—have come with the gold. Not only are evening gowns of every conceivable metallic weave, but waisted coats, collars and cuffs, and “modesties” for day frocks are of brightly-coloured silks woven with metal thread. Even serviceable country tweeds and checks have gold and silver strands in their weave. Velvets show flecks of gold leaf. There are quaint gingham-check lames, and a shaggy lame of striped silver and gold. Spun glass thread woven with silk and dull gun-metal finished satin are among the new materials. Huge wrought copper roses, belts of galalite and copper six inches wide, pastel flowers painted on gold and surrounded with gold leaves, are among some of the popular metal ornaments. Jackets of heavily-quilted silver lame are popular for evening.
