NEW ZEALANDERS AT CENTENARY REGATTA IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCES United Press Association —By Electric Tel egraph —Copyrlgh t (Received October 28, 1.50 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 28. A fast flood in the Yarra hampered the great Centenary rowing regatta on Saturday, when for the first time in history a New Zealand eight rowed in Melbourne. Owing to a strong current the centre of the stream gave an advantage. All heats in the senior eights were won in the centre positions. University defeated Wanganui in a heat by a quarter of a length, despite the New Zealand crew’s strong finishing effort. It was an impressive performance. Smith (Waitemata) was second and Abbott (Petone) first in their respective heats of the Handicap Sculls. Abbott was defeated by two lengths in the final.
