ANNUAL CONFERENCE By Telegraph Press Association WELLINGTON, October 17. The conference of Master Butchers Associations of New Zealand is being held here. The president is Mr W. Tunley. The first annual report was presented. It stated that the council had asked the Government to make certain amendments in the Slaughtering Act, and while the Government had not brought down the Amending Bill, it was believed that as a result of further representations such a Bill would be brought down in the near future. The report also said that the Inroads made in the retail butchering industry by persons conducting auction marts and by the unemployed handling meat for human consumption had seriously affected the income of those engaged in the industry. The executive had considered the position, and it was felt that the matter should be looked into by the Government with a view to i elng that all meat was handled and sold in accordance with the requirements of the regulations under the Health Act.
