Mr and Mrs J. E. Sewell (Christchurch) are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs James Innes (Mackenzie Country) are staying at the Grosvenor. Mr and Mrs Wyeth (Brydon) are staying at the Empire. Mr and Mrs J. W. Fair, Douglas Street, have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Barbara Bell, Ranfurly Street, left yesterday to stay with Miss Lorna Lambie. “Inverell,” Ashburton. Mr and Mrs A. S. Elworthy, Holme Station,” Pareora, have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs H. Sinclair-Thomson, Park Lane, have returned from Christchurch. Captain and Mrs Neill Rattray, Waimate, have returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Irene Shaw, Waimate, is staying with her mother, Mrs Walter Shaw, Pleasant Valley, Geraldine. Miss Jean Buckleton, Mr John Buckleton, Miss Jean Sutherland, and Mr John Sutherland, Wellington, are on a visit to Mt, Cook. Mr and Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone and Misses Catherine and Jeanetta Johnstone. “Spring-bank,” Otaio, have returned from Christchurch. Miss Berta Wood. Beverley Road, who has been spending a few days in Christchurch, returned home yesterday. Misses M. E. Fleet (Waikouaiti), E. Baxter (Oamaru) and Mr F. Smith (Dunedin) are visiting Timaru and are at the Grand. Mrs James Hay, Christchurch, who returned last week from a visit to England, will arrive to-day to spend a few days at the Grosvenor. Mrs S. Nottingham, who was the guest of Mrs F. A. Raymond, Wai-iti Avenue, returned on Saturday to Christchurch. Miss Cara Pinckney, “Glenaray,” Southland, Is the guest of Miss Peggy Unwin, Church Street. Miss Nona Pinckney is staying with Miss Tripp. Orari Gorge. Mr and Mrs P. A. Elworthy, Gordon’s Valley, who are on a visit to England, will leave on thfir return to New Zealand by the Remuera on August 24. Miss Margaret Webster, is spending the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs George Webster, Nelson Terrace. Miss Margaret Thomson, Christchurch, will arrive to-day to be her guest for a few days. The engagement is announced of Leopold William Pember, second son of the late Mr Hugh Reeves and of Mrs Reeves, Hororata, and Mary Robertson, eldest daughter of Mr Duncan Menzies and the late Mrs Menzies, Wellington. Miss Joyce Hewitt, the young Auckland pianist, who is this s'ear studying with Isidore Goodman, at Sydney Co.iservatorium, has recently announced her engagement to Victor A. Bailey, M.A.. D.Phil. (Oxon.), F. Inst.P. Both are fluent linguists, and are contemplating a short visit to Europe at the end of the year.
