The Opihi was another arrival at this, port yesterday. She called here from Oamaru to pick up shipments for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, and departed later for the north via Lyttelton. The Totara is due here to-morrow morryng from Dunedin. She will lift Wellington and New Plymouth shipments before sailing via Lyttelton. Tairoa Due To-day. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Tairoa is expected to arrive from Bluff to-day to continue discharge of her Home cargo. She will load here for London and West Coast ports and should proceed to Wellington tomorrow. Matai Delayed. The Matai has been held up at Stewart Island on account of bad weather. She is still expected to leave Bluff on Monday evening next for West Coast lights and Wellington. Golden Cross Replaced. The steamer Golden State is to replace the Golden Cross, leaving San Francisco next Monday and Los Angeles on August 1, for Auckland, Wellington, and Australian ports. The Golden State is due at Auckland on August 27, and at Wellington four days later. She is loading at San Francisco and Los Angeles only. Was It a Record? It was stated recently that the motor ship Taupata had broken the record for a trip between the Queen’s Wharf and Miramar Wharf, having done the Journey in 21 minutes, says the “Evening Post.” The times recorded by the Harbour Board do not bear out this contention, as, on her trip yesterday from Queen’s Wharf No. 13 to Miramar the Taupata took 30 minutes, and on her return trip from Miramar to Queen’s Wharf she also occupied the half-hour. The steamer Kaitoa’s record of 21 minutes over the journey, made on the morning of October 9 last year, would appear to stand. The distance between the two wharves Is approximately three and one-third nautical miles. Captain Wahlstrom was in command of the Kaitoa when she made her record run last year. Personal. Captain A. H. Prosser has taken command of the Waimarino, relieving Captain R. M. Kane, who returned to Wellington this morning for instructions. Captain W. Johnson has resumed command of the tug Terawhiti, after holidays, relieving Captain P. E. Ryan, who is now on holiday leave. Mr J. Billingham has joined the Niagara as senior third officer, relieving Mr A. J. McKenzie, who is proceeding to Sydney A holiday leave. Mr H. F. Ferguson is joining the Maunganui to-day as purser. Mr J. Hughan has been engaged as mate on the Rata.
