PLEASANT POINT

FOOTBALL CLUB. At the fortnightly meeting of the Football Club there were present:— Messrs T. Kelliher (president), J. Dossett, W. Crawford, C. Cartwright, A. Oborn, S. Baxter and W. Wakefield (hon. secretary). The secretary reported that the recent dance had been very successful. A statement of accounts disclosed a credit balance of £l7/1/-, which was very gratifying. A vote of thanks was passed to all who had assisted. Donations were received from the Rev. W. McNeur, Mr Wilson and Mr J. Robertson. At the special request of supporters, it was agreed to hold a dance at Cave. The club captain said that Cave enthusiasts would make all the arrangements. Mr Crawford agreed to act as M.C. Messrs G. Dewar and A. Simpson were added to the social committee. The secretary was directed to apply for a tournament date and for permission to play the arinual game with Albion (Christchurch) at the end of the season. GENERAL. Wet weather is greatly delaying farming operations, and very little autumn sown wheat has gone in this year. A return to drier conditions would be greatly appreciated. Owing to lack of all classes of seasonal work, there has been a big increase in the number of registrations at the local unemployment bureau.
