USES FOR PUTTY

How many housewives realise the countless domestic uses that can be found for putty? Here are a few of them:— Gilt picture frames of the ornamental type often become tarnished and lose portions of their ornamentation. They can be renovated by applying putty to the damaged parts, moulding it to follow the pattern as closely as possible, allowing it to dry thoroughly, and then painting over with gold paint. Putty is invaluable for filling up cracks and stopping nail-holes. Before painting floors or walls, use this medium for levelling up such trifling defects; then paint over it, and the finished job will be much more satisfactory. An excellent tip when painting window frames is to press little pellets of putty into any sharp corners, thus rounding them off. When dry, paint over the whole, and there will be no further need to poke into dusty little corners every time the windows are cleaned. Putty must be thoroughly soft and plastic to give good results. It should be kept in an airtight tin when not in use. If too dry to mould readily, work a little hot linseed oil into it.
