MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

MACKENZIE GROUP ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Mackenzie Miniature Rifle Association was held at Cave, the president (Mr A. R. Seymour) presiding over an attendance of 15 delegates. Apologies for absence were received from tlvi patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., and Mr C. J. Talbot, vice-president. An apology was also received from the Tengawai Club which is not competing this year. The balance sheet showing a credit balance of £2 13s was adopted. The following officers were elected— Patron, Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P.; president, Mr A. R. Seymour; vice-presi-dents, Mrs Manaton, Messrs C. J. Talbot, Andrew Grant, R. Thistleton, F. Smith, C. Clark, P. Kidd, E. Gallen, J. Guerin, and W. Little; committee. captain and secretary of each club; target checker, Mr W. T. Taylor (Pleasant Point); range officer, Mr W. Dorman; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. T. J. Butterworth. Entry fees were fixed at 1/- a shooter. It was decided to hold the shooting on the same lines as the New Zealand championships,, one shot only to be fired on each bull. Four rounds are to be held, three on homo range, and the final at Cave. The Cave team is to travel to Fairlie for the second round. The grades were fixed as follows, the six shoots previous to July 7, when the first round commences, to count for the grading. A Grade: O.ver 76. B. Grade: 73 and under 76. C. Grade: Under 73. It was decided to give cups for first and second in each grade, and under 18, also 10 miniature cups for the winners of the Mackenzie Shield. It was decided to allow 6 minutes for the first target, and 4 minutes for the second target in the final shoot, and that each shooter pay 1/3 for supper at the final shoot. Votes of thanks were passed to the Cave Club for the use of its range for the meeting and to the president (Mr A. R. Seymour). It was left to the secretary to arrange a return shoot with the Geraldine Association at Cave. After an enjoyable supper provided by the Association, a triangular five man shoot was held between Fairlie, Mt. Nessing, and Cave. The scores were: Cave.—J. Gray 78, A Hawthorne 76, R. Moses 75, A. Young 74, I. Simpson 72; total 375. Fairlie. —W. Dorman 78, W. Close 75, W. Whitehead 75. W. H. Cook 73, B. Welsh 72; total 373. Mt. Nessing: C. Macauley 76. J. Hubbard 76, D. Brown 75, S. Hubbard 74. D. Hubbard 70; total 371. The Cave team won by two points.

PLEASANT POINT CLUB. The eighth official shoot of the Pleasant Point Miniature Rifle Club was fired on Monday evening, when D. Doake won the weekly trophy and the Bowman button with 77, 79, 79, 78 off the rifle. Miss A. Macßean was runnerup with 74, 78, 78, 76 off the rifle. N. Results— Men’s match—Point 778, Cave 764. Women's match—Point 297, Cave 288. The following team will represent Point v. Glen-iti in a match for the Timaru challenge shield, on Saturday evening:—W. T. ORARI LADIES’ CLUB. At the eighth shoot of the Orari Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club the trophy given by a weli-wisher was won by Mrs Rysdale. Scores: Mrs J. Henderson 78, Mrs L. Henderson 77, Mrs Watson 77, Miss Gould 77, Mrs Rysdale 76, Miss Mason 74. Miss Stevens 73, Mrs Wright 72, Miss Brenton 72, Miss Smith 70. HILTON CLUB. At the weekly shoot of the Hilton Miniature Rifle Club the best scores were:—D. A. Scott 80, A. Johnson 80, W. Scott 80, R. Meredith 79, F. Hawke 79, H. Jones 79, P. Brenton 79, W. Johnson 77, R. Brenton 76, A. Botting 75. WOODBURY CLUB. The Woodbury Miniature Rifle Club's weekly shoot was held on Monday night. The best scores were: K. Quaid 78, G. Cain 78, M. Wooding 77, D. Fergusson 74, W. Scully 74, A. J. Fifield 74, J. Fifleld senr. 72, D. Fifield 72, H. Rice 70; average 74.4 TIMARU CLUB. No. 11 shoot of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Club was held on Monday evening when the shooting was again belo-.v competition standard, The tie for No. 10 trophy was decided in favour of M. R. Taylor, after two shootsoff. The tie for the previous week’s silver rifle was also decided and W. Bradshaw proved the winner. Seven members tied for this week’s prize presented by Mr J. F, Lewis, and will shoot off next week. The club teams will fire the first round of the “Herald" shield competition on July 9. The highest scores in this week’s shoot were:—W. Bradshaw 79, F.
