DONOVAN BEATS McKAY. By Telegraph—Press Association NAPIER. June 25. Displaying all the speed, aggressiveness and elusiveness that characterised him In his heydey, Tommy Donovan 9.5 beat Johnny McKay (Gisborne) 9.S over 15 rounds of two minutes each tonight. It was a points verdict. Generally Donovan had the better of the fight all the way througn, but McKay did not for a moment allow the pace to slacken. It was a thrilling encounter with both men giving and taking a vast amount of punishment in frequent toe to toe exchanges. The earlier stages of the bout were frequently interspersed with clinching and holding for which both men were repeatedly warned, but in the latter stages, the pace and openness increased. It was a popular verdict.
