THE DUTIES OF AN M.P.

To the Editor of “ The Timaru Herald ” Sir,—ln reply to a letter in your recent issue signed “Consistent,” I would say the word consistent is out of place, when comments are made against our member, Mr Clyde Carr. The letter written by your correspondent signed “Hilton,” has given plain facts how hard our M.P. works for his constituency. So I say give credit where credit is due, whether “Consistent” is averse to our cause or not, I would also like to state plain facts, that whenever our member has been asked to do anything on behalf of the unemployed, never minding what political creed, he has always come forward. What would be the use of a public person remaining in one place? I would say “Consistent” wants to have his or her mind broadened. Let good advice be broadcasted as much as possible. It is a pity there are not more energetic people representing Timaru. Ii there were, Timaru would be on a better basis. There are too many people sitting back, criticising and being contentious w’hile the hard worker is trying to do his best. As Mr Clyde Carr went in by a majority, and by the sense of the right thinking people, we are still in the happy position to know we have some people who still have commonsense, and I hope now that our member has made his duties plain through the press that “Consistent” will see that our M.P., knows his duties. I also thank the writer named “Hilton” for pointing out the value of a man who can and will represent his people in any “place” or town.—l am, etc., JUSTICE TO ALL. Timaru, June 23.
