TIMARU TROTTING CLUB

VACANCIES ON COMMITTEE FILLED. The vacancies on the committee of the Timaru Trotting Club, caused by the resignations of three members some time ago, were filled at a meeting of the committee yesterday. Present: Messrs J. Hole (chairman), A. P. Greenfield, J. Connolly, G. T. Wardell, J. Gilmore, A. F. Stocker and M. H. Richards. The chairman said that after last meeting when it had been decided to carry on as at present, some members had thought that as the committee was pledged to spend a sum of money it would be advisable to face the annual meeting with a full committee. In moving that the resolution passed at a meeting on May 14: "That the vacancies on the committee be not filled in the meantime,” be rescinded, Mr Stocker said he would like to see a full committee and a vice-president appointed. The motion was seconded by Mr Connolly. Mr Wardell said that at the meeting on May 14 he had proposed that the vacancies on the committee be not filled until the annual meeting. The money the chairman had spoken of would have to be spent in any case, and he could not see any reason to change his previous opinion. Mr Connolly said that at present the club did not possess a vice-president. It would be rather awkward if the chairman was absent at any time. Mr Richards; We can elect a vicepresident now if we like and still carry on till the election. I feel inclined to stick to my previous opinion. Mr Gilmore said that if the vacancies were filled, the new members could not do anything. Mr Connolly: It would be nice to have a full committee at the annual meeting. Mr Greenfield said that if three members were offering he could see no reason why they should not be elected. The motion was carried and Messrs T. M. Munro, C. S. Young and T. H. Langford were appointed to fill the vacancies. General. A letter was received from the trustees of the racecourse stating that they were agreeable to the erection of a new licensed booth at the racecourse on a site decided upon by the ground committee of the South Canterbury Jockey Club. The secretary was appointed as the club's delegate to the annual conference of the New Zealand Trotting Association. It was agreed to make a grant of £2/2/- to the funds of the St. John Ambulance Association. The annual meeting was fixed for July 30.
