POLICE WERE WARNED
GANGSTER-MURDERER SHOT BY POLICE NEW YORK, June 10. The police station at Waterloo, lowa, received a mysterious telephone message to-day: “Look out for Tommy Carroll (one of John Dillinger’s lieutenants, wanted for two murders). He is in a blue roadster, number —” The detective sauntered outside, and right before their eyes, in front of the police station, passed a blue car with the number indicated. Carroll reached for his revolver, but it was too late. Dying, he admitted his identity, and said he wondered how the police knew him. With his last breath he cautioned his girl companion to tell the police nothing. John Dillinger is being sought by the United States police for murder and robbery.
