SUCCESSFUL SEASON TIMARU ASSOCIATION The seventeenth annual meeting of the Timaru Miniature Rifle Association was held in the Drill Hall on Saturday night, Mr W. Duncan presiding over an attendance of 20 delegates. Annual Report. The annual report was as follows: The past year has been a very successful one in everjy way and the position of the Association is good. “The Timaru Herald” Shield competition was fired again during the year and was a greater success than ever, there being another record entry of 48 teams. The Railway C proved the winner, after a keen competition. The Lewis Cup for the best team score in “The Timaru Herald” Shield competition was won oy Timaru No. 1 team. “The Herald" Shield competitions was again shot in four grades, and the individual with the highest score in each grade received a cup. Mr F. Lewis provided the cup for the A grade and the Association provided cups for the other three grades. The Fraser Cup, for the returned soldier with the best score in “The Herald” Shield competition, was won by Rifleman J. Hull, of Glen-iti Club. The A grade individual champianship was won by Rifleman C. Blackwood of the Timaru Club. The B grade went to L. Howard, of Pareora. Rifleman H. Currie, of Glen-iti. won the C grade and A. Skinner, of St. Patrick’s, won the D grade. The South Island championship was again held in Timaru and was a great attraction to riflemen from Otago and as far north as Christchurch. There were 30 teams competing for the championship. Timaru A 1 team tied with Ford Motors of Christchurch, for first place. The England Mcßae Cup for the best team score put up by a South Canterbury team in the South Island championship shoot was also won by Timaru A 1 team. The South Island individual championship was won by Rifleman W. T. Taylor, of Pleasant Point, after a shoot-off with W. Bradshaw of Timaru, and Claridge, of Christchurch. A ladies’ match was fired in conjunction with the South Island shoot and attracted quite a number of lady shooters. Miss Greig, of Claremont, was first. The Interprovincial Shield match was fired this year at Waimate. The Lewis Shield was won by Waimate A grade and the Faulkner Shield was won oy the Waimate B team. A Successful Season. During the year riflemen connected with the Timaru Association, collected a number of open competitions. G. Marra, of Timaru, and O. Paine tied for the Waimate open championship. The South Island championship was won by Rifleman W. T. Taylor, of Pleasant Point, and Rifleman W. Brawshaw was runner-up. The South Canterbury championship was won by Rifleman W. W. Best. The New Zealand championship was won by W. Duncan and C. Blackwood was runnerup. TheVice-President Cup New Zealand was won by W. Duncan and C. Blackwood was rumier-up. For the President’s Cup New Zealand, W. Duncan was second. For the grand aggregate for New Zealand W. Duncan was first and C. Blackwood was second. The Timaru team won the Waimate open shoot, tied for the South Island championship and-won the England Mcßae Challenge Cup: As the Timaru Association takes In a radius of only 12 miles from Timaru, the Timaru Association had something to be proud of. Another club had started In the district, the West End Club. Thanks were expressed to Messrs Priest and Holdgate, Messrs England and Mcßae. Mr Fraser, Mr F. Lewis for trophies and to Sergeant-Major Mathieson for help given the Association during the season. After . completing the season the Association was about £lO better off than at the beginning of the season. The cash balance was £29/3/6, and according to the balance sheet there were assets to the value of £4/5/- and liabilities of only £2/15/-. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the president welcomed delegates from two new clubs, West End and Colomoc, which, he said, brought the list of affiliated clubs up to 14. Mr Duncan extended his thanks to all who had assisted during the year and paid a tribute to the way in which the checking and handicapping at the South Island championship meeting was done. Complimentary reference had been made to the way in which the meeting had been staged, all the officials having done their work creditably. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Duncan; vicepresidents, Messrs L. Murray, W. Best, R. A. Rodgers, T. Currie, W. Hull, Dr P. B. Benham; auditor, Mr W. Malcolm; secretary, Mr A. Thoreau; emergency committee, Messrs W. Duncan, J. Batchelor, T. Currie, G. McLean, Brehaut, Power and Rodgers; handicappers, Messrs W. Best, G. McLean, J Healey; Checkers, Messrs R. A. Rodgers, J. Batchelor, L. Murray, W. Best; selectors, Messrs M. Healey, W. Duncan, .W. Best. “Herald” - Shield Competition. It was agreed to have four grades In the Herald Shield competition as follows; A grade 76 and over; B grade 74 and over; C grade 71 and over; D grade under 71, the competition to consist of four rounds. The entry fee was fixed at 5/- a team. The first round is to be completed by July 14 and each succeeding round every fortnight, the last four official shoots to count. It was decided to fix the club affiliation fee at 2d a financial member, a ladies’ individual championship to be run in conjunction with the “Herald" Shield competition. It was unanimously agreed to hold the South Island championship meeting in August, details being left in the hands of the Emergency Committee. After discussion it was decided to ask the Dominion Executive to take charge of the competition for. the Lord Dewar Cup. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs W. Duncan, J. Patehelor and W. McLean was set up to draft rules for the Association.
